CNN Poll Finds Americans' Opinons Are Divided Regarding The President's Health Reform Push
Americans appear split over the president"s push for health care reform, a new CNN poll has found. "Fifty percent of those questioned in CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey released Wednesday morning say they support the president"s plans, with 45 percent opposed. The results indicate a generational divide. ""Obama"s plan is most popular among younger Americans and least popular among senior citizens," says CNN Polling Director Keating Holland. "A majority of Americans over the age of 50 oppose Obama"s plan; a majority of those under 50 support it.""

Data From Clinical Study Of BioTheranostics Molecular Diagnostic Test Presented At American Society Of Clinical Oncology Annual Meeting
bioTheranostics, a bioMerieux company that discovers, develops and commercializes new molecular diagnostic tests in oncology, announced that a recent study demonstrated the company"s THEROS CancerTYPE ID(R) molecular diagnostic test predicted cancer origin with 75 percent accuracy in patients whose primary cancer was initially "unknown" using traditional diagnostics. Electronic Coding Overestimates Prevalence Of Barrett's Esophagus
In a review of more than 2,000 patients coded for Barrett"s esophagus, electronic diagnosis overestimated the prevalence of the disease according to researchers in California. They found that only 61.9 percent of patients assigned a billing diagnosis code for Barrett"s esophagus actually had Barrett"s esophagus after a manual record review. The study evaluated the accuracy of diagnostic codes for Barrett"s esophagus by contrasting codes from electronic databases with diagnoses from a detailed medical record review. Researchers also evaluated the reproducibility of a pathologic diagnosis of Barrett"s esophagus between two pathologists and between a single pathologist on two different occasions. The study appears in the May issue of GIE: Gastrointestinal Endoscopy, the monthly peer-reviewed scientific journal of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE).

King Saud University Scientist Part Of Cancer Breakthrough

King Saud University professor, Dr. Adel Almogren, along with a diverse team of academic researchers from the United States, Canada, and Taiwan, has discovered a new process that could lead to a vaccine to block cancer cell adhesion and growth. In the upcoming issue of NeoPlasia, an international oncology research journal, Dr. Almogren and his colleagues describe their efforts to use monoclonal antibodies to block the tumor process and increase cancer survival rates. Monoclonal antibodies are produced by one type of immune cell that are clones, or mimics, of a parent cell. Successful Petri dish experiments indicate that vaccinations with these peptide mimics may be able to block a common tumor-causing carbohydrate known as Thomsen-Friedenreich. Dr. Almogren is an Assistant Professor in the College of Medicine"s Pathology Department at King Saud University. He earned his PhD in immunology from the University of Dundee in Scotland and has been on the KSU faculty since 2003. His participation in this scientific breakthrough is indicative of the recent trend of rapid growth in innovation at KSU and throughout the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The university has been aggressively recruiting world-class researchers and ramping up its patenting and technology transfer activities.
