VisEn Molecular Imaging Technology Enables Key Insights Into Newly Discovered Biologic Pathway Published In SCIENCE
VisEn Medical Inc., a leader in fluorescence in vivo imaging from research through medicine, announced that scientists reporting in the July 31 issue of SCIENCE have discovered a key disease-related biologic pathway using an integrated and innovative array of in vitro readouts and advanced in vivo imaging technologies. The newly reported biologic pathway relates to monocyte deployment from the spleen to inflammatory sites, including myocardial infarction. The findings are expected to open up new areas of research and potentially advance therapeutic approaches to key disease areas including inflammation and myocardial injury.

Advances In Lab-Grown Motor Nerves Can Lead To Cures For Diabetic Neuropathy And Help Further Understand Multiple Sclerosis And Related Conditions
In the July issue of Biomaterials, published by Elsevier, researchers from the University of Central Florida (UCF) report on the first lab-grown motor nerves that are insulated and organized just like they are in the human body. The model system will drastically improve understanding of the causes of myelin-related conditions, such as diabetic neuropathy and later, possibly multiple sclerosis (MS). In addition, the model system will enable the discovery and testing of new drug therapies for these conditions.

NICE Welcomes Office For Life Sciences New Blueprint To Support Innovative Drugs

NICE today welcomed the Office for Life Sciences new Blueprint to support the life sciences industry, which will also improve patient access to innovative new drugs. Welcoming the Blueprint launch, Andrew Dillon Chief Executive of NICE said: "Securing a successful future for the life sciences industries is important for patients and the UK economy.The Innovation Pass is an opportunity for data to be gathered on potentially important new treatments. NICE has been involved in discussions about the Innovation Pass, and we are looking forward to continuing to play a key role in developing the pass." Mr Dillon continued: "NICE is committed to engaging constructively with the pharmaceutical industry and we are extending the access that companies have to us, as we appraise their products. Later this year, we will begin asking pharmaceutical and other life sciences companies, whose products we are evaluating, to make technical staff available to engage with our advisory Appraisal Committees. They will be able to respond to requests from committee chairs to clarify the data they have submitted and to point out any error of fact in the presentation of their data. We believe that this will give companies more confidence in the way NICE handles the evaluation of their products." NICE
